Dubbed " The Yukiyasu " ... I purchased the blade in it's plain wood scabbard, it is possibly based on a historical design, from Darryl Guertin MANY years ago. A great craftsman named Henry Ahmu hand-made everything else for this sword; from scabbard to fittings to decorations. He made the grip with his own personal touch -- wrapping the wood core with a thin nylon cord instead of the traditional wrap. Blade never cut with. Included with the Yuki : A new gold sageo, a blue sword bag ( note : it does not fit perfectly but has served me well keeping the dust off ), the old wood sheath the blade came in. Blade length : 33 inches Width at hilt : 1 3/8 inch Width near point : 7/8 inch Grip length : 14 1/4 inches Width of grip : 1 6/8 inch curve ( sori ) : roughly 1 1/8th inch Asking : $1300
I have not posted anything for sale for some time so I am not familiar with new methods of payment. I prefer to accept money-orders, certified check, and will even consider personal checks by mail. However, I will not ship the sword until said item clears with my bank. Shipping and insurance will need to be discussed. I have used UPS as well as USPS to ship items, but it has been a long time and if a buyer prefers another carrier ? I am willing to discuss it. Please forgive me for not using Japanese terminology. Just not my style as I do NOT personally regard any Japanese style sword in my collection as a TRUE Japanese blade.Side Note : I wanted to find something mentioned regarding Mr. Guertin and found this information in an old thread here, I hope Admin. does not mind me borrowing this as I think it is important to understand Mr. G no longer -- at least to my knowledge -- is in business. " Darryl Guertin" or simply "Guertin" and you'll find some threads that should explain. In short he was importing swords a few years back, doing some of the work himself if i'm right ( only on the koshirae tho ). Ended quite badly. Suffice to say he's out of business for few years now. Note : I will entertain offers, and trades plus $$$$ ... This is a very sturdy package and a rather big blade. A closer look at the handle. Henry Ahmu, God rest his soul, did an incredible wrap job.

Bump. And another fact, Henry Ahmu and I collaborated on the design and motif of the fittings. He took my drawings and measurements and modified them for a more realistic look.

Still available.
Remember, while the blade IS a production level / made in China ( I believe ) item, it IS still a rather unique design. At least I have NOT seen others like it. AND everything else -- fitting, sheath, grip -- is CUSTOM made. B-)

" I'm gonna be honest with you brother, I can't find a single thing on "Darryl Guertin" anywhere on this forum. The name isn't familiar either. You're asking a substantial amount of money for a blade made by two people no one has ever heard of. Sounds like it's got a lot of sentimental value to you, but that doesn't translate to people looking to buy it. I think if you posted whatever info you have on these two guys it would help your sale. Just my two cents sorry if it wasn't wanted

B-) Before posting The Yuki for sale I DID try to find relevant information regarding both Mr. G and Mr. A. Sadly nothing came up. As I wrote, Mr. Ahmu passed away many years ago and I believe Mr. Guertin went out of business. Perhaps there are older forum members like myself who would recognize the names, but of course I can't count on that. As for my asking price ? I don't THINK I'm too far off in posting a " special ordered but still production level Japanese style blade in shirasaya " as valued around $ 700 ... ( Yes, you can certainly find cheaper these days. For example, RoninKatana posts a very nice product for around $ 450 ). I actually THINK I'm UNDER-valuing the HAND MADE custom-made saya and custom made fittings.

I guess I have been around for a while... I actually remember this particular sword from SFI, way back. Henry Ahmu did great job with koshirae, even though I personally would like more traditional mount. I remember there were reasons for no rayskin etc. There was a great thread with pictures years ago on this mount.
Now I would want to have this sword for nostalgy reasons, as back in 2005 when DGuertin went out of business, I was actually saving up for this particular sword (I got custom Last Legend in 2007 when I had enough saved). I think the basic version of this sword was c.1000$ even back then. Unfortunately all my saving will go towards trip to Japan next year... And for me going to Japan yearly overrides sword collecting.
Back then I thought it was based as an replica of original tachi by Naminohira Yukiyasu. However now that I have actually researched majority of surviving examples of tachi by Yukiyasu, this is not a replica of any particular sword. One could say this is historically inspired with characteristics of an earlier style Japanese sword.
I think Darryl Guertin still has presence with authentic Japanese swords. I remember seeing him writing in some Facebook group. Unfortunately I dont use Facebook at all anymore.
Back in the day I think DGuertin sourced their swords from "Fred Chen" or forges with close connection to Fred Chen. I was really liking his idea (DGuertin) of having "stereotypical" historically inspired swords as a lineup. It was bit different and nobody has really done it either. It would have been direction I would have been going for but unfortunately I don't think people would actually pay for that. People just want a katana and don't care about historical authencity at all...
This is basically stuff happening 20 years ago so I might not be remembering everything correctly...
