Did some mat cutting today. Used tatami 1/2 mat packed tight with scraps. The Tuoyuan cut them with ease. Remided me of the Motohara LMC I had once. No blade bending. Since the 4th time of straightening the blade and pushing it a bit to the left, it settled in straight.

Wish I opted for paper cutting sharpness instead of just sword sharp.

My final thoughts for the Z-Sey Tuoyuan Katana MKIII. Though it is a excellent mat cutter. It is still a roll of the dice as to what a Chinese forge will send you. Like this one with the bent blade and ill fitted Habaki.
I had asked Z-Sey if they would send another free of charge in order to restore my faith in their ability to made a excellent katana free of major defects. That answer was no.
Grant it this Tuoyuan Katana was free in the end due to defects and would have been half price because of the issue I had with the previous order.
Pretty much all 3 of the Z-Sey Katana’s I bought had some sort of problem. Weather that be small to large:
1. S7 katana. End knots on the wrong sides. Excellent mat cutter.
2. LD katana advertised as a cutter, but fails as a mat cutter unless your cutting half mats with no scraps or a 2.5 inch rolled and soaked newspaper.
Half mats packed with scraps and full mats not so good. Maybe this is why the only cutting video from Z-Sey for the LD was a worker hacking at some very large bamboo, no mats.
3. Tuoyuan Katana. Bent blade, very loose Habaki. Excellent mat cutter.
Best I can say is they do have excellent customer service and will reply to most emails.

Quick update on the Z-Sey Tuoyuan Katana MKIII. No more problems, blade is staying straight. Is now my favorite and best cutter for mats.
