Can you provide dimensions? Are there any other markings than the "895" on the blade? look at the brass parts closely for markings (that's where mine has most of the stamps)

Although I haven't studied these swords extensively, I don't think it's a French one. Typically a French-made briquet would have a maker's name and date on the spine plus controllers' stamps on the blade. Many countries used variations of these in the 19th Century, some easier to identify than others because of local variations. I think the pommel on your sword is a good clue on where it came from. From memory, the Italian briquet had a steel domed cap similar to yours.
