Hello all, been awhile, I post a lot on the IASC page but always forget to post here. Mostly been into British stuff lately and that's rather unpopular here so maybe its for the best lol. Anyways I went a bit nutso at the last Czernys and got a very bizarre sabre I am turning to you folks for help on. The description for the sabre is as follows:
"Curved, single-and false-edged blade with hollow tip, large, central fuller and tang, first part engraved with trophies and floral motifs, signed "Mennoza". Iron, mono-quillon hilt with langets and loop-guard, partially grooved, long cap, horn grip (small parts missing), embossed with spirals and with metallic wire binding. Rare model." I do apologize about the photo quality, blame Czernys.
The OAL is 96cm (not sure if the sword is measured top to bottom or the curve is taken into account) which is about on par with the other sabres of the era but it is just WEIRD looking. The Horn Grip makes me think French but the grip bulge isnt their style. The langets and stirrup hilt make me think German (and likely a german blade IMO). The blade itself has a clip point which is French/Swiss/Italian style wise but the floral stylings just look a /bit/ more italian than some of the other generic ones you see in the French and British patterns.
I am absolutely stumped, that ridge on the hilt is also unique. Looks almost like a Flank Officer's Sabre sized thing? Anyways, if anyone has a direction they could point me to, I'd really appreciate it while I commit to the onerous task of getting the swords from Italy, and still waiting on the GIANT 1855 blade I picked up almost 3 months ago now with no news =/
Thanks!
