Greetings! A review of my Blackthorn Cane. I like all kinds of weapons, I like them a lot! Some years ago the desire for a good Blackthorn Cane started to grow in my heart. I read many old story's about the Irish defending themselves with the deadly Blackthorn Cane! Prunus spinosa or Blachthorn it's common name is a great wood for bludgeon's, impact resistant and long wearing. Planted with care it makes a livestock proof hedge with its sharp tough thorns and the berries are used to make real sloe gin used in Alcohol drinks like a sloe gin fizz. My search turned up a few company's offering Blackthorn canes with stock picture of a choice specimen and shipment of random stock. I knew my chances of receiving a Cane that would satisfy me were very low going that route. I continued my search until I found a handful of company's that sold individual Blackthorn Canes as pictured. I viewed hundreds if not thousands of Canes. It seemed impractical to send endless inquiries as to weight. Lengths were listed so I thought carefully about what the pictures could tell me. I think it was two plus years of obsessively searching inventory until the day I found the one! I could see it had two minor bends in the shaft but they were near each end and reversed in orientation so as to keep the Cane straight over all. I hoped it would weigh somewhere between 16 to 24 ounces. Aesthetically it checked off all the boxes, length and girth looked good. I generally like Canes 35 to 38 inches. Purchased it from eamonmcc2008irishblackthornsticks on Ebay and received it in about a week from Ireland to USA Massachusetts. Length 38 1/2 inches. Weight 25 1/2 ounces. It can be swung by either end to deliver a skull cracking/limb breaking blow. Held by the knob end it has a more sword like swing, balanced with tip control. Held by the tip end it has a nice lite fast baseball bat swing. Peace
