I created this axe head by cutting and grinding down a vintage double bit axe head. The hand drawn fantasy images were then etched into the blade over eleven different acid etching sessions. The belly plates were also fashioned from steel and are hand etched. Ash handle with deerhide wrapping. Thanks for looking, I appreciate your thoughts. Shawn Bina Guildofthegildedhilt.com

looks like a fine axe that any Dwarven warrior would be proud to wield in battle

Thanks I appreciate the comment. I am enjoying a break from daggers and doing a few more axes.

Thank you all for the very kind and supportive comments. This forum has been so welcoming and encouraging. I am always nervous about sharing my artwork and I have always been my harshest critic so it is very flattering to hear that other enthusiasts like my work.

Cool! What's the idea behind the sea/ship theme for the axe? Write up the story of a sea dragon sinking a ship or a magician cancelling the visit of his mother in law?

In this case the axe make sense too. A battle axe for a battle axe. The later however, THICK and tempered VERY poorly.

Thanks guys. The axe does have a story behind the etching from the fictional land of Illantul, like all of my pieces do; but I do like the mother-in-law angle.

The Dwarfen warrior axe idea remembers me of a story in which a dwarf named his axe: "The Equalizer", watch your legs!
