Been looking at another Atlantean sword to replace my cheap Chinese knock off. Yeah I would love an Albion but my wallet says nay. I hate my wallet. The thing I don't like about Windlass is their etching instead of engraving. It looks and feels like it is just on the surface not into the blade. Almost looks like it's printed on the blade. Even my cheapo is cut deep into the blade. That made me look at Ryansword. Watched some testing videos on YouTube and they certainly look rugged enough. But how is the fit and finish on them ? I know they claim their fittings are solid brass but are they ? I don't like the idea of buying something direct from China but don't think they have any dealers in the US. There's someone on Amazon claiming to be Ryanswords but he is located in Pakistan and a couple reviewers said he's not Ryansword so did Ryansword say he's not them.

Well Treeslicer I was testing the waters to see if there was any NEW information on them. If anyone NEW here has one and would like to comment on them. In other words information that is NOT seven years old. Maybe someone bought one seven years ago and would like to share information on how well they have held up. We do still talk about swords here don't we ?

At a current price of 315.00, it's not a huge gamble.

I wonder how anything could be done to tame the weight, without either changing the design unacceptably from what we saw in the movie, or making it a prop instead of a cutter?

At a current price of 315.00, it's not a huge gamble. Where have you seen them for $315 ? I see $430 for the darkened fittings folded steel and $380 for the polished fittings plus whatever the shipping is from China. I see the Fathers sword folded steel for $315 but not the Atlantean. I wish there was a US dealer for them I would order one in a heartbea

Well let me make it easier, has anyone ordered any sword direct from Ryansword ? Any problems ? Was the shipping really high ? Did the order take longer than expected ? Was there any import tax on top of sales tax ? How is your sword fit and finish and holding up ?

I have owned 4 Ryansword swords, three of which were bought directly from them. The customer service was exceptional. I was pleased with the quality of all four of them and 2 of them were particularly nice. I personally believe that like most of the Longquan sellers, they are putting together parts they buy wholesale and where they can put their touch on things is ancillary finish work. They also have a couple of things that are unique to them (such as the Conan pieces) but the usual factories are making the pieces.
My biggest issue with Chinese made stuff (minus LK Chen) is the heat treat on through tempered pieces. It can be very hit and miss as I personally don't believe they have any real protocol or equipment for that, the blades are quenched and placed back in the fire for a few minutes to temper, that's it. I have never seen a thermometer or oven in any production videos I have ever seen from Longquan. You may get something decent or something just waiting to snap in half. The manufacturers don't invest in this part of the process because they understand that 99% of all swords won't see anything more than a few casual whacks into a piece of would or some tatami mats.
As for rousing discussion about swords on a sword forum, unfortunately it's been about 10+ years since that went on. Even the FB groups are asleep, other than people posting pictures of their stuff. I chalk this up to that we got to the point where we know everything there is to know, and good quality swords are all over the place for purchase. There just isn't a ton of exciting stuff to talk about anymore I guess.

They list two of their seven Conan swords as " strong blade heavy choppers " so I think they would be well tempered. Some of the test videos are impressive. The only thing that makes me hesitate is I've never did business with anyone in China before. I need to check to see if they take credit cards as payment now because years ago when checked with them they only took Paypal. I don't have a Paypal anymore when they insisted I give them my bank account number. I was paying them with my credit card. Guess they didn't like it when I did a charge back on them when they didn't make good on their " Paypal Protection ". Thanks again for the information.

I was ans still am kinda interested in this model.
Brother Nathaniel had them make a decent destroyer model.
Cost to performance wise seems to best the windlass considerably.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I think they list some models on Amazon? Not, apparently, the model I'm after (the awesome brother nate model). That would make me more comfortable ordering.

NO, NO,NO, the ones on Amazon are fakes not Ryansword. They're coming out of Pakistan just using Ryansword's pictures and name. I almost fell for that too until I read the reviews. Wish it had been true I would already have ordered it.
