Hi all,
Out of curiosity does anyone happen to know if there are any US-based companies/individuals that currently offer affordable sharpening/hybrid polishing services for production-level katana? Nihonzashi was really the only one that I knew of that previously did such things, although given how they have remained closed for so long I was somewhat interested to know if there is anybody else that offers comparable work on commission.

Hello there! I am proud to offer sharpening and polishing for production katana. I charge $80 for monouchi only, and $145 for full blade sharpening. I am currently in the middle of a sharpening project for another member of the forum (Last Legend Field Mark 2) I would be happy to take this on as well if it is something that works for you. Please refer to my website rewrapstudio.com/services for more information. Thank you for your time ~Rob

I'm only asking because I have a hanwei bamboo mat katana that I would prefer to be cleaned up a bit, but would really just like to see some of your past work before just pulling the trigger. Thanks!

Do you mind me asking how it turned out? i apologize for not getting back to you sooner. we had a family friend suddenly pass away so it has been a rough couple of weeks. I have not finished the sword yet as i took a break to deal with the passing. I do have a couple of projects that I did on my own pieces I will share those. I have not perfected the mirror polish technique yet however I am able to give it a nice shine and remove blemish and scratches. Sharpening I am good at, polishing I am still learning and experimenting (which is why my price reflects that) I will not be offended if you choose to go with someone more experienced as I understand that I am newer to the game. The two pictures here is my 1095 folded steel kat that I used buffing compounds on after sharpening. The second is my Dragon King 5160 spring steel where I was practicing a different method of hand polishing.

Do I detect a micro bevel on the 1095 katana, just a small one? The other looks like you are getting there.

I don't think there is a micro bevel it might be the lighting. But now I have to go back and look. I will say that sharpening method I tried on that I didn't like so I don't use it. Oh man I hope there isn't one. Yikes.

Here's another angle of the 1095. I am not able to see one but if there is then I have work to do lol.

A couple of the images look like the camera is focusing on the background rather than the sword. If you put the blade down on a towel or a blanket it should take care of that problem because there won't be multiple distances to focus on.

I thought it might be the lighting but I had to ask. My camera will not focus on a bright metal blade. I need something adjacent or very near the blade for the camera to focus on. Then if worse comes to worse I edit the foreign object out via cropping.
