I'm stumped. What's the purpose of the wooden piece on the outside of the scabbard? the part that is held on by the parallel wraps... looks like a cupboard door handle.

Wow! I love it! Amazing work as usual Brian ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Thanks to both of you for sharing it. I especially like all the silver metal bits, not sure what they are all called yet, but they are lovely. That celtic knot leatherwork compliments the chape (? metal piece at the bottom of scabbard?) really nicely. Mike, I want a fashion show ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

That would be what is called the "strap bridge". There are many theories as to it's exact usage, and the most common one would be that it held a baldric in place on the scabbard. But in this case, it supports the 2.5 point suspension in position on the backside of the scabbard. It's also part of my kitchen, so I'll need it back when Mike is done with it.

Beautiful piece. Who gets design credit? +1 Depends on what aspect you're talking about. Peter Johnsson designed the suspension. I replicated it, and added the artistic elements.

I just sent the sword and said "Please make something really cool and historic based on this drawing from Peter Johnsson." www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=12131 bottom drawing in the 5th post from the top.

Brian, that is killer! You're on your way to the top man. The next couple of days will witness an Albion Sovereign on the way to my door. It will need a scabbard, and I had thoughts of doing it myself until I beheld what you are capable of!. I imagine you need the sword itself hey? Also whats the production time on something similar to Mikes in regards to the amount of decoration? And $

Also whats the production time on something similar to Mikes in regards to the amount of decoration? And $ Thanks everyone. Swords are required in order to design & fit the custom wood core. Once started, a scabbard typically takes 2 to 3 weeks depending on work flow & complexity. Pricing is established once all the details are arranged. Average pricing on scabbards range from $500 to $,1000 depending on options & design work.
