I made a scabbard suspension system matching as closely as possible the Central European types. I used Red Deer Buckskin for the belting, as the sword of Fernando de la Cerda was described as having on its scabbard. Contrary to some opinions I’d seen on that matter, the buckskin holds up perfectly and when its wet it doesn’t stiffen or become ruined as Alum Tanned leather would. Examples from the period that I used as inspiration:

Very nice work! Is that the Balaur Arms Teutonic Arming sword? Did you use the original scabbard or did you make a custom core? I was actually tempted by this sword but kinda difficult to get nowadays...

Lovely work. Keep it going! I initially got into scabbard making because most commercially available ones are pretty basic and also because I thought that when one doesn't have the ability (skills or space) to make swords it was a good alternative. Nut I quickly learned that it really was a thing on its own. And extremely satisfying to make! I was planning to get that sword, but unfortunately it is a bit difficult to get in the UK. Maybe one day.
