Another finished project, this time a FeiLong Matsu. As explained, I wanted to go for a similar look to the Dragon King Pine Crane. We started with the base model. First, I had the fittings painted in brown as I really like the combo brown/white/black. I then bought some silk ito from Namikawa, as well as a pair of silver shitodome for the kashira. A new set of menuki from Yamato (the same menuki actually but a full set: on the base model, both menuki were the same piece) and I used some much better samegawa panels. The tsuka has been fully restored by Shinken Studio, who did the maki, the panels fitting, the patina and the lacquering. A new thick sageo has been added, as well as a decoration in cork bark (fully removable) as a kojiri.

Understated and elegant, really beautiful, I think. The tsuka looks fantastic, and I wouldn't have thought the silver would look so good against the brown. I'm curious about purpose of the cork bark, though; I've never seen that done.

The sword is "matsu" themed and has a pine tree motif on fuchi, kashira, menuki and tsuba.
