So the story here is that circa 2005 I was in England, and visited the Hadrian's Wall museum. I hadn't ever bought a sword before, but in the gift shop I saw this one mounted high on the wall. I bought it, and brought it back home in my checked luggage. I believe it was about £300 at the time. The gentleman in the shop told me it was from Spain, and that it was the "Sword of Julius Caesar". Ever since it has adorned my various mantles. At one point, I went to a tack shop (where you buy accessories for horses), and bought the leather strap you see, which is actually perfect for wearing it. I suspect it's not actually stainless steel, because it has a thick layer of grease or maybe even poly on to protect it, and the reflections have a sort of flake pattern, (maybe cast?). That tang is also pretty thin, so I'm pretty sure it's just meant to be a wallhanger. It came unsharpened. The furniture is pretty much all pure cast brass, I believe, and the "leather" is probably synthetic (or at least very papery!). It has the typical screw on pommel, which gets loose over time, and you have to keep tightening it. I love the look of it, so I'm ok with all that, just would like to know a bit more about it. I suspect Marto, but I haven't seen any Marto swords exactly like it online, and there's no markings whatsoever anywhere on the sword. Thanks to anyone who has more info on it!

I was at the Hexham area Roman museums c2004, but don't remember seeing this sword an that trip. It does look familiar, but I didn't see it in some 2003-2007 Atlanta Cutlery catalogs. I don't know if Marto had a printed product catalog back then, but i am inclined to agree that they could be the maker.

Thanks, yes the Denix model is an exact fit! I guess then it was made in the UK. That's interesting that it's made of Zamec! The pattern is quite attractive, but not like any steel sword I've ever seen. It makes a nice sound as it comes out of the scabbard. I appreciate the tip!

Shoot, my first thought was Denix, but I couldn't remember if they were Spanish. Spent a while searching for different terms, convinced it wasn't Denix. Next time I'll go with my gut.
Nice looking piece, even if it's not functional.

A drop of Loctite (I suggest 242) will end the pommel’s loosening issue. Apply to the threads.
