After much effort I was finally able to get a handmade gulf arabian saif. Thought should share some pictures. I wish there were some more makers forging these kind of swords.

Looks pretty decent. Is it a blunt or just a very round tip? Who made it?

Well traditionally these swords are always sold slightly blunt and its up to the owner to sharpen them. The blade has a very V-like cross-section(typical of shamshirs) so despite being blunt, the blade is somewhat sharp. Yes, the tip is somewhat round, but I hope that would be reduced once I sharpen it.
I got it from Depaj, they are sword manufacturers for 200 years. But the prices are astronomical.

Ah, that makes sense. Never heard of the brand, are they local to the region or based elsewhere? Dare I ask how "astronomical" this sword was?

That is one of the most beautiful swords I’ve seen. The amount of work and skill that went into the engraving is tremendous.

I've grown a fondness for Near Eastern swords in the last little while and that one's a real looker. Probably too rich for my blood though! I do wish there were more swords like this readily available in the market as well. Did you know LK Chen as shamshir in the in the works? It may be kinda plain but it will be easier on my wallet.

They are local mostly (nearly all royal swords are made by them), but they do sell abroad. I managed to get the second cheapest offering they had for 1200 euros. Usually its two type of swords, swords with new blades and hilt are cheaper. The other are old wootz blades with new hilts which are more expensive.
In terms of curvature they are further divided into three types : Najdiyyah (with straight blade), Hadab (moderate curvature) and Hilali ( Crescent, with maximal curvature).
They are quite active on instagram, but the website really sucks. I had to ask a friend to visit them and buy and then send it over.

1200 euros is a fair amount less than I was expecting. That's not bad at all.
Thanks for sharing everything.

Thanks all for the kind words. Yes I have seen it. The curvature looks nice, but the handle is a bit off putting specially the size and shape. Plus at 450 (with shipping), It seems like paying more than what you are getting.

From what I've seen of LK Chen's, it could certainly use some refinement. Going by their track record, so far, I have no doubts they'll be continuing to develop it further. I've been saying for years that I'd love to see more makers move into the Middle Eastern/Arabic world, particularly the Indian Subcontinent, but it's such a small niche and already flooded with antiques that are often as affordable as any accurate reproduction would be. Not that I can afford them, either way.
