Lovin' my new (well, recently arrived) Zombie Tools Zakasushi. Honestly, I ordered this when deeper in the throes of 'what sword-length weapon/tool will go best with my Marlin 336 Lever Scout and BK9, when society collapses and I need to run to the hills?' thinking . . .. Or, you know, Zombies. It was a close toss up between this and a Chenness Ko-katana I decided to sell. The ZT is probably 12 oz. heavier, but it feels absolutely bomb proof, like I could hack/pry through a door with it. And wicked shahp dude. Edit: Sure, a hatchet, machete or small prybar might be more practical tool to haul around. But none of those are $400, two-handed short swords . . .

New Ryujin Shobu Zukuri katana. Had one of these when they were first offered on the SBG store last year as a prototype, and really enjoyed it until a tiny piece flaked off during cutting. I got it replaced via warranty with a standard Ryujin custom katana, and actually ended up selling both the damaged one and the replacement. But I've missed the original one, so when these appeared back on the store, I figured I'd get another, with a completely different style than the last one.

Small blunt sparring spearhead. For when I eventually do HEMA. Also cool for costumes.

After giving it a feel over, this thing is way too solid to do any HEMA with. It’ll still be useful for drills and costumes though.

Great sword. Looks like a good tool to thin out the drowner population at your favorite waterway.

Great sword. Looks like a good tool to thin out the drowner population at your favorite waterway. Indeed. We love the smell of "ignied" drowners in the morning...

Those circular wedges are good stuff. They push the wood out in all directions to help create a uniformly tight fit.

The way I get it, a hatchet is a smaller, one handed axe.
Every hatchet is an axe, not every axe is a hatchet.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Maciej Kopciuch has finished my custom type XII and has posted photos on his website. The commission is still in progress as he is currently crafting the scabbard/suspension but I thought I would share photos of the finished sword. This is my first medieval sword commission and thus far has been an excellent experience with Maciej. He has been easy to deal with and offered excellent advice regarding historical and design specific issues as I fleshed the concept out in my mind. I don't have a lot to judge the experience against as my only other custom sword experience was superb with my commissioning two daisho (L6 and 1086) made by Howard Clark and polished / mounted by Ted Tenold. From Maciej's website: artofswordmaking.com/gallery/custom-sword-early-14thcCustom Sword, early 14th century.
"That is a large and quite massive one-handed sword, designed according to customer wish. We actually know some original examples with similar proportions, also the details in this design are inspired by original examples. The grip is covered with red leather and has a distinct octagonal cross-section." Measurements:
total length: 1010mm / 39.76 in blade length: 840mm / 33.07 in blade width: 64mm / 2.52 in grip: 115mm / 4.53 in crossguard: 185mm / 7.28 in PoB: 125mm / 4.92 in weight: 1355g / 2.98 lb Distal taper: 5mm to 2mm
