I just recently purchased one of these. mine is windlass too but does not have the hilt on it as yours does. me being someone that values hand protection, it being historical or not i dont care. my only concern with this mace is that after handling the mace for only a couple of minutes the stitching in the handle started coming out, and the metal pipe they used for this piece is IMO wayy too thin.....one swing of just a lowly hatchet or hand axe would render this particular piece useless......its just not thick enough to stand up to weapon on weapon clashing. flick the handle with your middle finger. high pitched pinging noise? to me that says THIN. i thought about sending it back, but it looks good on my weapons rack, and next time i buy a dome-crusher ill just save the 260 and get the arms and armor one. sorry if i hijacked this, i just wanted to chime in because i dont think ill review it, however i could not resist smacking a wooden shield i had made out of partical board and it smashed it in rather well, making a small entrance hole and blowing out a 4 inch hole in the back, considering how lightly i swung it. even with its thin handle dont let this thing fool you, its scary to think about how bad one of these could jack you up. even if you accidently wacked yourself in the head with the lightest tap, you could split your wig and put yourself in a coma.

i just recently attended the Scarborough Faire ren festival that comes through every year. i was at a weapons/blacksmith shop and they had a flanged mace that made the one i had,(Windlass) feel like a toy. the guys shop is in alvarado. legacy forge II i think or something like that. really a solid piece.

While I have no doubts the Arms and Armour mace offerings are better, it sounds to me like you are talking about an entirely different mace than this one. this one is extremely sturdy and not thin in any way at any part. yeah the cheasy little star guard screams "made in China" (or India since it is a Windlass) but it's a pretty minor detail and the benefit is worth-while. for the price this is good-beats

Tom, have you been around the SCA long enough to remember when we made helms out of freon cans like that?
Still a great mace review.

I remember them as having just recently been banned when I first joined.

hmm, im not sure what to make out of this, i ordered the Windlass Black German Flanged mace, maybe you got one from a previous production line, mine however is not as sturdy as yours appears, i broke a thin partical board and the handle is bowed a little now. i bought it from KoA too. maybe the new ones are less sturdy?

Nicely done! I have a different (newer) model of the same weapon. Maybe they addressed some of the cons you posted? I'll get a review done and up for you if you'd like.
Also, no star-shaped guard on this one. No brass tipeither. Just spooky black death steel death all the way up.
Looks like you had a lot of fun bashing things!

Yours isn't solid steel like Tom's is, though.
