I see that you post on SBG frequently and are a reputable seller.
I am interested in this piece. $550 including shipping for a Kamakura blade seems quite reasonable to me. My only question is without a signature, how can you estimate the age of the items? I mean we're talking the mid to late 1300s A.D.

Not op but i have some thoughts on that. At a first glance you can already see that the blade is almost straight, this could be a sign of many polishing rounds. Not necessarily as there were also (almost) straight blades around.
An other indicator is the steel pattern. Different steel was produced at different tataras. Depending on the era the steel has its own properties. The smiths method of forging leaves its marks in the steel. Every smith has his own fingerprint in the steel. Experts (I am no expert) can see these differences and judge by who and when the blade was made. Sometimes it can be done up to the year, sometimes even more precise. In Japan you have groups that gather around different blades and then try to judge these blades. Of course these have better polish than this piece.

Late Kamakura period unsigned blade and complete Muromachi koshirae Nagasa 23 inches small forge line on left side of kissaki following temper and boshi turn back .
