Just a short review for a Z-Sey S7 High Performance Katana.
Fit and finish are excellent. Mirror polish. Excellent core. Weight without the saya is 2 lbs 5.4 oz. Blade length 27.5 inches from the Habaki. Ito is Japanese leather. Paper cutting sharp. Slides into the saya like it is on roller wheels, very smooth. No cons for me on this one. Though I am sure a trained eye can find something. I replaced the Sageo and added a black delrin for the mukugi pin. I was looking at the S5 steel. Everything I read said that S7 will hold a edge better. Specs: <Koshirae> ——————————————- ■Tsuba:Iron ■F&K:White Copper ■Menuki:Brass Blaked ■Seppa: Nickel-Plated Brass ■Habaki:White Copper ■Tsuka:(Haichi Style) ■Tsuka Samegawa:White Ray Skin ■Tsuka Ito:Fake Silk・Black(With Hishigami) ■Mukugi:1 ■Kashira&Kurikata Shitodome:White Copper ■Saya:Hron Koiguchi、Kurikata、Kojiri ■Saya Style:黑石目塗り (Oil Lacquer) ■Sageo:Fake silk Sageo <Blade> ——————————————- ■Nagasa:71CM ■Motohaba:3.2CM ■Sakihaba:2.4cm ■Motokasane:0.68CM ■Sakikasane:0.45CM ■Sori:About 1.5CM ■Tsuka Length:26CM or 10.24 inches ■Bohi:No Bohi ■Material:S7 High Performance Steel ■Hamon Style:Suguha Style ■Blade Style:Shinogi Zukuri ■Heat Treatment: Oil Quenching ■Without Saya Weight:2 lbs 5.4 oz. Here is a test that Z-Sey did on the toughness of S7 steel. I'm not saying in any way that I think the person in the video was being deceitful about the sharpness/toughness test but to be honest, if you're going to cut the scene after the abusive cutting and before you test the edge, you then basically just have to take their word for it.

I doubt it was still as sharp as it was to start with. But I am not planning on chopping wood with mine. :)

They removed the chinese production katanas(S7 and another one) , because they fear their reputation will suffer from these chinese made, which will not equate their quality standards.
That was told me

I can believe they said that. The chinese version I bought was better quality than anything else out of China I have bought. It also was a introduction into the quality workmanship Z-Sey does. Knowing the international ones are even better quality.

Yesterday I cut a couple of used tatami mats. One full roll and another full roll packed with scraps.
Went through them with ease.

Really is sad they stopped making these. I'm 99% sure they will make them. Maybe just not offer them online, but they could do it I'm sure. I think they just wanted to step away from the "Chinese" versions and focus on the International (higher quality) stuff. I bet they might do a fancy version with S7 soon and offer it as an International version, but my guess is it won't be as cheap as what you paid.

Today I cut a used tatami mat double roll packed with scraps. The S7 cut with ease. I never thought I would find one that cuts better than my Dynasty Forge Shobu.
