Hi, this is my first post on the forum, so I hope it is in the right section.
I would love to hear your thoughts about a sabre I bought a while ago. I did not recognize the sabre when I got it, but I bought it together with a Dutch model 1876 for a rather cheap price, so I figured that if it were fake then it was not that big of a deal. When it arrived I thought it was indeed a recent replica, because it felt quite different from every other sabre I own, much flimsier so to speak and the fuller on only one side threw me off aswell, so I wrote it off as a recent replica. However, today I was looking around and to my surprise I saw that it could be an Austrian model 1904 and not a replica. So after this I started to clean the sabre a bit. As you can see on the photo the bottom part of the fullered side was quite rusted. After some cleaning there appears to be a wreath with numbers in between: on the bottom I believe I can make out 1908, of the upper number I can only see the first 1. On the flat side it says Johann M(a)... the rest is illegible I'm afraid. Lastly, there seems to be a monogram on the pommel cap. Does anyone know anything about these markings?
Thanks, Niels

Welcome to the forum. It looks like a 1904 to me. Back when I was trying to learn about these from online sources, I found there were a whole bunch of variations. Mine is what I am guessing to be a bit of a later version, with a grip of ray skin rather than shark skin, and a pipeback blade of high carbon steel. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/56512/pellius-happy-home-budget-blades?page=3Thanks for sharing.
