I've been checking the forum out for a bit before I joined. These two swords have been on the mantel in my childhood home since I was 2 or 3 years old. I used to ask questions about them all the time. But the answers I got were vague or hazy at this point. After all, it's been decades since I was 3 years old. Can anyone school me on these? My Dad has passed and there really isn't anyone left to ask. I would greatly appreciate knowing the history of these. I have looked at about a thousand swords trying to match them up..to no avail. The history of this stuff can get addicting fast. Thanks for any help in advance.

you might want to post this or have a mod move this to the Renaissance and Military Swords sub-forum. The people who would know the answer are usually found there

Hello jasinx10. The one on top is most probably a Bavarian Infantry Officers sabre M1855. The other one a French M1821 Infantry Officers sabre. This one has the protruding part on the front of the guard plate missing. Are there any stamps on the blades? Cheers.

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much that helps me out. I've been trying to ID these for a long time!

I will check the blades with a jewelers loupe and see what I can find.
