Moroha zukuri is an old sugata/blade type that is popular (because it's different). With Cloudhammer, they can source anything any other seller out of LongQuan can but they aren't out of LongQuan. No idea about habaki. Just hit up John bc truth be told, I'm sure he's forgot more about tachi than I know. I really don't much about them. Depending on what it is, the price goes up. They source a variety of steels based on purpose (and cost). offhand, dunno if CloudHammer can do folded for a tachi blade but they do it in katana sugata. I think the real "IF" would be if they would do it in long nagasa beyond 29/30" cloudhammerforge.com/products/katana-functional-historic-customizable-tamahagencloudhammerforge.com/products/copy-of-katana-functional-historic-27-5-nagasa-kobuse-laminationMaybe Dragonsword will swap out polyester for silk or customize it from the base model. No idea or if it would end up just as expensive as the custom Z-sey.

Ah thanks blairbob - knowing what it (the double edged blade) is called allowed me to look into it a bit. It looks like that style of blade is something that came over with the Chinese swords and persisted a while but became quite rare by the time you saw later tachi/earlier katana. I think I'd probably prefer a classic tachi blade.
One question: John is the point of contact at Cloudhammer?
You mention one more important thing about the dragonsword swords. I'd probably want to swap out the textiles anyways just for colour - but I'd definitely want to do it for material. For cloudhammer I would need to check material but the colours are basically perfect (for my subjective taste).

John of RVA-katana is the US rep of Cloudhammer.
yeah, I dunno how many modifications you can do with Dragonsword with their drop menu. I'm sure it's just a matter of email and messaging back and forth.
Also, don't know if it would get stupid expensive like Z-sey.

Thanks blairbob! I will reach out to John after this post! Another thing: It seems like cloudhammer really is focused more on historical accuracy. They do have Moroha zukuri double edged tachi but they are the older style that has clearly Chinese influence: cloudhammerforge.com/products/tachi-historic-kogarasu-32-nagasa-w2-cable-steelI think I've got to go with cloudhammer. While the quality might not be as good as dragonsword (but I don't know), it sure seems to me (who is admittedly brand new with this and knows very little) that the historical accuracy is much better.

as i've said before, Cloudhammer can customize your fittings so you can have it look however you want.
i'm guessing there are far more limited tachi kanagu options out of Long Quan, or even Japan. But that's just my supposition that there is less of a demand for tachi than katana in the market.

Yep, I think you are right about the tachi demand/options, blairbob.
