Hi All, A brand new member here and just starting out so please bear with me. I recently purchased (my first) 2 items and the first was this sabre (online auction), I thought I would be able to work out what it was later (wrong). After receiving it I cleaned up the brass but have not attempted to clean the blade, unfortunately I have not been able to work out what it actually is or where it's from (apart from that I don't think it is English...maybe French?). There is some engraving on the blade, but I have no clue what they mean and not been able to see any makers marks. Are the engravings a later addition? Do they mean anything? Is it really a wall hanger/reproduction..... or a champagne bottle opener? The knuckleguard is cast brass (I can see some casting imperfections). Shows signs of wear It fits very snugly in the scabbard and there are 2 steel/iron inserts? and the rings are 30mm across (iron/steel). The blade is 765mm/30" long The POB is 135mm from the guard weighs 1160gm w/o scabbard and 1810 gm with hilt is 145mm (5.5") blade is about 7mm wide at the guard 25mm wide (1") blade at the guard - generally seems well made and is still quite sharp with no damage/nicks. Any help would be appreciated (it did not cost much so I will learn from this)! Attachments:

It looks like a reproduction of a French Mounted Grenadiers sabre. ‘Sabres de troupe des grenadiers a cheval’ from the First Empire era. The etching and finish on the guard are too crude for this to be an original sword.

Doesn't look like...it IS a replica made in China a couple of years ago. How can you recognize it as such: they got everything wrong (handle, scabbard, blade etc).
The blade text just makes zero sense...
Just how much did you pay for that thing?

Thanks everyone, it was all up less than USD100...so not that much and a lesson for the future That should have been a clue in of itself. For the genuine article you add another two zeros to the end what you spent.

A repro. It sounds like you paid about what it's worth.
