I have what I think is a mid 20th century sword, but I can't find anything like it on the web. It has a hokey suit-of-armor head cast into the hilt right where the blade attaches. (That's like carving a picture of a cowboy hat into the grip of a revolver!)
It is sturdy and has a metal scabbard.
Can't find any markings. Who might have made it?

You will need to post pictures before anyone can post a useful response.

It will be a while before I can get a pic. I was hoping the Halloween costume style would be a dead giveaway. (It is no toy. You could run someone through with it.)

Sounds like one of those masonic knights of Columbus swords.

That makes sense! Good quality ceremonial. The head being an emblem of the Knights of Columbus. No members that I know of in my family (few Catholics anyway), but could have been an estate/rummage sale find by my father.
This points me in a useful direction. Thanks!

The Masonic, Knights Templar, etc. sometimes have a helmeted head at the butt end of the handle or a non-helmeted head in profile at the blade end, but I still have not seen anything with a helmeted head at that location. Mine features head looking straight out, not in profile.
I still think ceremonial is most likely, rather than just decorative.

Egg on my face! This is why eyewitness testimony is often GFS. The armored head is on the butt end and there is a full figure, not just a head, where the blade starts.
It is a noncomissioned officer association Knight of the Square Table sword.
