Hi, Good Night. I'm a collector from Brazil and I Buy basically only blades there where used in my country. The blades from 20th century (Republic) are really easy to identify. But during all the 19th century (Brazilian Empire) the majority of regulation swords where just British, German or French swords, sometimes these had some markings, decorations or the coat of arms of the First(P I) or (in majority of cases) the Second Emperor (P II). But the majority of the 19th century swords has no association with our monarchy, so we have to know what types where used here in period and know the history of that sword to confirm that as a Brazilian sword. Recently I bought a smallsword/court sword which has almost certainly been used around here. But, these type os sword was used in the courts in all 19th century and even in the firsts decades of the 20th century on the republic period. So, I want to know more about this sword (Where it came from and What the time period it is from). There are no marks in it, no maker or anything. But I'm pretty sure the knowledgeable people around here must be some good information about this by analyzing the design and decoration of the Hilt. The blade is just a simple triangular shape. Thanks a lot about anything. I would make a post in the future about my collection and Brazilian swords since there isnt much about that here, but my collection is still in the firsts years and I have much to add and learn.

I think the basic design is French. It comes quite close to this one, even in some of the pommel details: The time period would fit too. I took the images from the outstanding book : Les Epees, by Jean l'Hoste. You'll find a wealth of information there and as far as books about sabres and such are conserned, it's relatively cheap too. Hope this helps you out a bit. Cheers.

Thank you very much, Uhlan. It help a lot, it really has everything to do with the expected period.
I'm looking for this and other books. But since I'm in Brazil, I don't have access to most of these books, not even by importation. Amazon, for example. And the only book we have about Brazilian swords and sabers contains a lot of wrong information. As in Brazil sabers and swords from several European countries were used, I would have to buy all the books from all countries. But luckily, most here have already been well catalogued.
What happens is that sometimes pieces like this appear that do not have a coat of arms, markings or identification. And because of that, they end up being a mystery. But I really appreciate your help.
