The hilt looks a lot like a French 1831 Artillery Short Sword, but the blade shape isn't the French pattern (which has a triangular flat at the base by the guard).

That looks to me like a U.S. model 1832 artillery sword. Similar to the French sword mentioned above but with a blade shape more like this. The suspension system also appears correct. I’m not sure about reproduction vs antique, but pretty sure about the id. Anybody else?

Your sword doesn’t appear to be a French M1831 nor an US M1832. I do not know what it is. Below are photos of both swords compliments of Wikipedia. M1831 M1832 M1832 grip

I don't know about Russian. The Swiss used a similar cast hilt on a Pioneer short sword, but that had a saw-back blade. Might look for other mid-1800 Swiss blades.

The US 1832 version should have a fullered blade like the original French 1816 pattern did.

Ah, yes. I couldn’t open the larger image before. The fullers are not right. This is an interesting one. Looking forward to an id.

thx guys, i have googled myself sick, almost alot of simiaritys out there, could it be russian? You should have googled the Cottiau belt buckle. The design is French 2nd. Empire, and was used by the National Guard, infantry, and possibly some cavalry units. Example: www.relicmilitaria.com/product/france-cavalry-officers-belt-buckle-second-empire-plaque-de-centurion-dofficier-de-cavalerie/. Cottiau is an authentic maker of the period, but some reproduction swords and gear include fake maker's and acceptance marks, so it proves nothing solid about provenance, except that your sword and belt are intended to be French circa 1860's-1870's. I'd direct my further digging to that area.
