I recently bought the Windlass Long Hewing Spear and the Viking Spear heads which are veritable short swords without the staff as you can see compared to a gladius. I made grips with grip band (of course ) which also helped sharpening. Now I think about a fast attachment system to change quickly between spear and sword mode. A bayonet mount with two nails in the staff would need filed in slots in the spearhead socket. Or two mekugi? Or one long bolt through the entire staff? Whaddoyou think? Another question. I have staffs which don't taper much at the end. In the following picture you can see how long the staff reaches into the spearhead. Is it necessary to file the staff ends down to reach longer into the heads? (lazy me) The spear heads end where the staffs had their full diameter an don't have play. I assume it's not necessary that the staff ends give additional stability to the sockets, or is it?

I been wondering the same thing, some sort of quick attachment would be killer. Someone gave me the idea to use a pin, like a mekugi (I think it was zen?). I haven't gotten around to trying it out tho
So far, I've just been using screws. A nail would probably be better, but another good idea is like... A pin, that has one of those springy... Secondary pins, that attach on the end. Something to keep it in place
... Naturally, I put hockey tape on mine. Our war goes on and on, hockey tape vs grip tape

But we both still have to attach a tac flashlight to our spears like pgandy! Edit: Hah!

Unfortunately the back side is snow shovel, totally ugly. That side they don't show in the pictures. Should have bought a Cold Steel. Thinking about blending it somehow. But yeah, similar tactical approach to melee weapons etc. (except I hate small thin daggers).

I didn’t include my CS spearhead as it is a different location and it too is secured with a screw. The CS is an ugly duckling but is superior in function to either of those in the photo. I wish that I had another. You will find your torch more efficient if you rotate it 90° so that it is inline with the spearhead’s edge.

My UC halbert head has an ugly snow shovel side but at least I had an idea what to do with it. I inserted the not tapering end of the shaft and so got some space for a tactical flashlight. I need a shorter flashlight with this diameter but you can imagine the principle. Now grip band, a pneumatic siren and a few laser pointers...

If any of those flashlights have a strobe function, anybody on the wrong side is in for a really bad time.
