The brass branched backstrap sabre is a US Ancient and Honorable Artillery military association group. About 1900. The leather scabbards rarely survive. www.facebook.com/groups/iascpost When in doubt

Many thanks, friend! And yeah, the scabbard is in rough shape. The leather around the throat is almost completely torn off.

A rack of these. Fanueil Hall Boston. books.google.com/books?id=q5hoNuEJPMoCThere were at least three varieties I am familiar with, plus the British group. There are cavalry groups in the big eastern cities as well. Those late 19th century swords do mimic the old m1833. Philadelphia particularly. There were period m1833s in Boston.
