I often wonder why Cheness does not have a affordable Tanto knife? I found a very nice Tanto on-line at Smokey Mountain Knife Works web site www.eknifeworks.com. Item number DBSW318ST.....for $9.99 Yep! I know the blade might be cheap, however it looks good and traditional in style. I wish Cheness could make something like it available at their regular "great prices" I know this next question might not sit well with the folks at Cheness, but thought I would at least ask. My budget is tight right now and I would love to own your Shura 9260 Wakizashi and and a similar Katana blade in 9260 steel. So I was also wondering if Cheness might someday consider a lay-away payment plan for their product(s)? I also understand that some new products will be introduced soon, if this is correct would it be best to wait and see if some superior katanas are in the future.Your thoughts please. I believe I remember you mentioning some new products will be introduced very soon. If this is true would it be advantageous to wait and see if some even better, more superior Katanas might be introduced in the near future?

It's probably not cost-effective to turn good katana steel, which will sell, into tantos, which will not sell as well. Personally, if I were you, I would take my money and put it somewhere. If my money isn't being used then I put it to work for me in some form of bank account (I have quite a sum sitting in a commercial account right now that I am letting mature at about 4.5% interest 8-)). I'd set it aside in such a manner and keep depositing more money into it and build up a nice little blade fund that you can play with. I would wait until Mr. Chen puts out his new models and then I would invest in a sword. L.

Thanks for the investment advice, however I am doing Ok for a "working poor" person. I would argue with you about the demand for a quality and affordable Tanto knife, but what the heck. Do you know anything about the new Katanas that might be arriving sometime in the future? From your advice it seems wise to wait and see.

i agree with L. that the demand isn't quite there. i just purchased the kaze and am waiting for it to come (not very patiently i might add hah). i would like to see more matching wakizashi and katana sets (kaze wakizashi!!!), but i also understand that the reason for limited types is that he's trying to keep everything low price. i have to admit, watching the reviews and "testing" of the 9260 blade is quite impressive. especially the one that somebody took to chain maille and other crazy things. it just shows what great quality the blades are. i bet they'd put alot of the paul chen (hanwei) blades to shame!

I'm not trying to give out investment advice! I'm just commenting that your money, for the time being, would do better in an investment account instead of buying some sword you're going to be "OK" with. Put your money somewhere, wait for a while (at least until after December, maybe January) until some of the big firms release their new line of swords for the year, then find something that "Wow's" you. i agree with L. that the demand isn't quite there. i just purchased the kaze and am waiting for it to come (not very patiently i might add hah). i would like to see more matching wakizashi and katana sets (kaze wakizashi!!!), but i also understand that the reason for limited types is that he's trying to keep everything low price. i have to admit, watching the reviews and "testing" of the 9260 blade is quite impressive. especially the one that somebody took to chain maille and other crazy things. it just shows what great quality the blades are. i bet they'd put alot of the paul chen (hanwei) blades to shame! A set of matching swords (katana & wakizashi) are called daishô. The last time they were popularly employed was during the Edo period. Wearing them is generally frowned upon unless you are a samurai.
