Showing off a bit of a future WIP. I recently purchased a custom replica of the Blades of Chaos from God of War as an early birthday gift for myself. These were made by Keaton Goodard of Faraway Forge. Keaton is also a former Forged in Fire champion. You can find his video on YT on the making of the blades if you're interested. Anyway I found his shop and reached out to him online and bartered for these. I would like to make a few tweaks when they get arrive and am open to suggestions on making them look a bit better and closer to canon. Here's a glam shot, along with some images he sent me.
First, I personally find the weathering a bit too heavy where as everything else looks too plain or light. I plan to sand some of the weathering down to a more even finish and am wondering if I should weather the chains and the blade edges with something like a bit of Jax blackener so the whole thing looks aged like this (only not to the point of rusting)
Also going to rewrap grips with brown leather strips that look closer to canon. I'm wondering how to get that cutout pattern on there. The leather on it looks way too fresh and doesn't blend well with the worn blades. I read saddle soap might do the trick but will need to look into it more.
Finally, the skull guards were aged really nicely with patina and is personally my favorite part of the piece. Keaton made them from mold casting over a 3D printed part. I will leave these as is though it'd be nice to find some red gems that fit to put in the sockets as it does in the game.
Also thinking about getting the runes etched in since these are the Norse version like these shown here.
If anyone has vendor recommendations for that sort of thing, I'm all ears. That's one thing I'm not sure how to go about doing myself. At least not safely!
