I liked Avatar when it came out but it hasn't held up for me on subsequent viewings. Not in the way that Dances with Wolves or the Last Samurai do. I'll probably watch it when it comes on a streaming platform but I won't go out of my way. Though I don't go to the movie theater too much anymore. I used to go like twice a month or so for a long time.

Should be pretty cool in 3D, what with the serious coin put down on special effects. I think more than one sequel was being made concurrently, so people wont have to wait forever like the gulf of time between the original movie and this one.

I'm excited for it. I love the lore of the universe, and am happy for anything that doesn't have the incredibly lazy soft, flat, and brown post-production color processing we usually see in effects heavy movies.

The FX was the only thing that carried the first movie. The rest of it was entirely forgettable.
I would rather have a movie with a tight story and interesting characters.

I'm not a fan of some of Cameron's ventures or his personality (he's on wife #5 I think) so there is a part of me that hopes it will just flop so he can retire into anonymity. I wouldn't miss the other Avatars either.
I did really enjoy the first because I liked all the actors.
I'm sure it'll be cool enough, probably just wait until it's like $6 online or streaming on TNT or HBO (when they have HBO for free as a promotion).
I miss going to the movie theatre as much but I'm fine watching something at home though I really think the bigger screen the better, even compared to 80" monstrosities at home.
OTOH, I can hit pause and go take a piss and not sit there for an hr thinking about holding back my bladder like I'm trying to make time on a long road trip. Hell, if I want to I can pop some popcorn for like 75 cents or even get some candy and not pay $10-15 for that. tbh, I do eat popcorn at home on occasion but I try to limit my junk food intake these days compared to when I was under 30.

As you can see, my sentiments are for humanity, not a planetary parasite. (Tongue firmly in cheek)

The first one was the only movie for me that every justified 3d. I recall the screens being pretty neat in it (the heads up holo type screens). For a few years after every film was 3d and most were terrible migraine inducing affairs.
I plan to possibly see it with the fam. Kiddo is ten and might enjoy fern gully 2, i mean, avatar 2. If I do, I'll go all in for 3d/iMax etc.
I enjoyed James horners score for the film, mourned his passing.
I always wished they would have cast Michael biehn as the marine antagonist in the original. Would've been cool to see him opposite Sigourney. We know he can play a villain (johny Ringo, tombstone)

One should also remember that some aliens will be more so than others:

What this really teaches us is that we need a Michael biehn appreciation thread. What about Abyss? Terminator? Dude is like the 1980s awesomeness incarnate!

We know he can play a villain (johny Ringo, tombstone) Yes, I was in highschool when it came out, suddenly everyone was wearing those damn glasses and thick glossy rims became the in thing for like 2 years after. 3d became the bane of existence as all theatres in my area had like 80/20 ratio between 3d showtimes and regular and my thick lenses and oversized frames just didn't mix well with the effects. Needless to say I hope the film flops harder than the last Thor and Cameron recedes into the nethers where he sprung from for another millennium lol. Tl;Dr 3d sux and I found the last one boring.

I'm likely gonna see it this week. The only thing I am apprehensive about is the kids seem really cringe and out of tone, but otherwise it looks entertaining.
