Thanks for writing this (as well as they Z-Sey review). I might be in the minority but I prefer well written reviews such as these over videos.

Thanks I actually like a lot about this sword, I just felt there were a few too many issues to warrant the price tag. if this were a couple hundred less as is or they fixed the issues, I think it would be a great deal. I have been updating my review, trying to add in some little vid clips to give a better perspective on some of the details. I'm someone building web pages that has no idea how to build web pages... so it will take a while before it's 100% complete.

Yeah, it's more the price point. 800 is steep, and makes this sword more expensive then most Huawei swords, and right at the cusp of zsey territory, despite it being less refined than swords from both companies

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to compose such a thorough review. As with all of your reviews, your detailed commentary and 'under the hood' shots really help a ton.
I agree with the polish change on this model- once the etch wore off there were some really nice properties which became more visible. I agree the gunome hamon was attractively done, I also am a fan of gunome with flairs of midare here and there.
Also agree there seem to be many small flaws which could stand for correction to make the brand more competitive. As I'm mostly interested in their T'ang Dynasty & Tachi designs, which have many more parts (and thus room for error), I'll probably hit pause while they fine tune some assembly quirks.

I read this the other day and thought I commented, but apparently not.
Excellent write-up, great photos, and of course, your insight is very much appreciated. Thanks for sharing this. I'm still on the fence with this brand, myself, and honestly I keep forgetting about it.

Thank you. now that I'm in recovery, I can't really do much customizing so I figured I'd at least try to do a couple reviews. I realize my reviews are heavily weighted toward aesthetics and fit & finish as opposed to performance and cutting, especially while I can't even cut pool noodles, but there are so many other good reviewers that feature cutting, I know the info is still out there and accessible if anyone wanted it. trying to add in stuff like better layouts and video clips and other random tech features is something I'd like to do more of but again, I struggle with my email and phone apps so it does take me a LOT longer to get the hang of it than most. little bit extra here and there for now, I hope at least it's not becoming more annoying than helpful Please, let me know if you guys would like to see something more in my reviews or to change things I already do, I have zero problems with trying my best to get it to where you like it. after all, these are for you, not me.

Absolutely outstanding review, thank you Josh! Learned some stuff in it to hopefully improve my own reviews.

Also, I hope it's coming across that I do indeed like this sword. I find myself picking it up more than most of my other ones and I've recently been captivated by these little nuances I'm finding in the steel where I removed the etch. maybe this is due to the cable steel or maybe there is more to the polish than I thought at first. idk but I can get lost in this 2" spot for a while "ooohh look, pretty, sparkly". I just have to bring myself back to reality though when I weigh the issues to the price tag. something I believe CHS can take care of going forward if they choose to.
generally, this is an exciting time in our little world of production katana and I really hope to see CHS hang with the new top tier brands, especially because they have a good representative that makes it easy to work with.

Absolutely outstanding review, thank you Josh! Learned some stuff in it to hopefully improve my own reviews. thank you I love the variety of review styles there are and think they all help bring different perspectives, making it easier for people to make better decisions and hopefully, be more satisfied with their sword and also save more of their hard earned money. as you probably already know, I am a big fan of your reviews and have been from the beginning.

I'm sorry Josh, I had no idea you've been having a rough go of it. Prayers and good vibes to your health.
And truly, your reviews are true to form. Thorough, thoughtful and precise. They are always a pleasure to read. I echo Jussi and Pgandy in that I still enjoy written reviews more than video reviews. The descriptive utility of the written word often surpasses the spoken. Then again, I'm a bit bookish so biases and all that.

I'm going to agree with a number of posters here who prefer the written reviews. Well done review on this sword.
