I'm guessing this is some kind of modern tactical sword, but if anybody knows anything else about it, I would appreciate it. It was given to me by my mother in law, was left behind after someone moved out of their apartment. The blade had a lot of rust on it and some knicks on the cutting edge, which I carefully removed with fine sandpaper lubricated with mineral oil. The guard is steel, with what appears to be a mill-scale type coating on it. The hilt handle was an octagonal hardwood in two pieces, riveted to the tang, which was a full tang and has two rivet holes in it. The handle had been completely covered in duct tape, and when I removed it, the original wood smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. The handle was also a bit too wide for my hands, so I removed the rivets and cut the wood off. I remember there was some kind of number on the tang, which I assumed was the kind of steel. I should have photographed it but I forgot. Anyway, made a new hilt handle of oak that fit my hand better, and attached it to the tang using hide glue. I wrapped the hilt with cotton cord and more hide glue, then cut and skived a piece of leather and attached it also using hide glue. The shape of the blade is rather like a machete or a straight Chinese Dao, with a groove that doesn't go the full length. It has a pretty thin blade with a taper that runs almost the whole width, except for the groove. It's not quite as flexible as spring steel, but I'm pretty sure with the full tang it was meant to be functional. The spine is flat. It came with a wood scabbard that has a pretty good fit, covered with leather with black plastic at the throat and at the tip. I've used google reverse image search but didn't really come up with anything. The blade is just under 32 inches, the scabbard about 33.5 inches, and the sword length just over 39 inches. The blade is 3/16" at it's thickest, and just under 2 inches at its widest.
It's a bit of an orphan, but I did well by it by restoring it and rehilting it! If anybody knows anything about it, I would appreciate knowing. Thanks!
