Hi all folks! I was hoping I could get some expert advice here. I have been toying with the idea of buying an 1831 french infantry glaive for a while. while looking around, I stumbled upon a gentleman who's selling one - however it's a very peculiar one, as in, it has a "double pommel". I don't have much experience in the field, but have seen quite a few examples of these but I never ever seen anything like this one - so I wonder if this could be a genuine rarity, or just a very weird knock-off? would anyone know if anything like this was ever offically produced/issued? attached is a picture of the sword itself, to give an idea of what i'm talking about. thoughts? thanks everyone!

I've never seen one like that before. All of the other French 1831 swords I've seen (real life or pictures) have been identical in pattern. Looking forward to see what turns up on this one.

yes that's exactly it, I have by now literally spent hours on google searching for another example of this, but nothing has popped up. I'd consider it a bd joke, if it wasn't for the fact that it looks like this has a number of markings that make it look genuine. so either this is a genuine rarity or it's a frankeistein-like experiment of someone with an interest in swords and metallurgy that copped off two pommels from another sword and welded them on?

I would want to see a high-res image of the blade side of the guard to see if there were signs of a solder joint holding on the outer finial.

Looks a little like some US Confederate short swords, specifically, Model 1832 Artillery short sword. It's clearly not the exact same, but maybe it has a connection.

I personally think that the second "pommels" at the guard ends are not original but attached later to create somethng unique for whatever reason.

Also, if you're like me (And I know I am) you love to learn about swords, so fun tip of the day: The butt of the sword is the Pommel, the area near the blade are the guard, cross-guard or the quillons. I personally think as well that those double circles on the quillons/guard are not original.
