You don’t show any stampings nor am I familiar with German acquirements. Having said that I strongly suspect they were private purchases made by the soldiers. You refer to the first one as having a rat tail. The pins, rivets?, suggest a broader tang. Possibly you have the photos switched as the second knife appears more likely to have a rat tail, or stick, tang. The difference is a rat tail is a thread shaft welded on and a stick tang is made from the same stock as the blade with no welded joint such as with a kukri.
