Bought a Huawei with a slight saya binding issue. I noticed the habaki moves under pressure, and I'm wondering if that could be the cause, as the binding is seemingly random and seems to be occuring near the habaki

Bought a Huawei with a slight saya binding issue. I noticed the habaki moves under pressure, and I'm wondering if that could be the cause, as the binding is seemingly random and seems to be occuring near the habaki which direction does the habaki move? has it gouged any material from the koiguchi? depending on how the habaki is moving, you may be able to easily shim it. if it's moving up and down between tsuka and blade, you may need to adjust the fit of the nakago in the tsuka or the other fittings or replace the mekugi.

Some quick off-the-cuff suggestions:
Unsheathe the sword & hold it kashira-side up. Fold a towerl two or three layers deep and place it over the kashira. Grasp the tsuka firmly and hit the padded kashira a few good hits with a rubber mallet. I've done this to tighten up a tsuka assembly against loose seppa/tsuba. It should firm it against the habaki as well, preventing play. (Don't do this is there's anything delicate or easily damaged on the kashira!)
If you shim the koiguchi, "ramp" the shim with a needle file, giving it a slight slope from the edge at the koiguchi. It will eliminate the habaki bumping against the shim edge and help it slide more smoothly. (You're basically forming a very narrow wedge.)
Hope this helps, and if you figure out it's something else, please let us know!

Probably should've mentioned this, but i fixed this by replacing one of the seppa with a thicker one. Thanks for the help though!
