Hello I was loooking at a sword from a brand called "quality replicas" made of what they call "manganese steel". I'm not too familiar with this steel type or brand, is anyone else? Is manganese steel any good for a sword?

Some manganese is added to more or less all industrial made steels. It has some advantages. To advertise "manganese steel" means indeed "nothing else", a bit like "carbon steel".

I appreciate the comment. So it's basically just the same as any other carbon steel sword usually? Wya advantages would it have? If any

Here's a scientific article about different steel alloys. Just ignore the very very scientific stuff (with the Greek letters), the rest is still informative. www.tf.uni-kiel.de/matwis/amat/iss/kap_9/advanced/a9_2_1.htmlUsually you read "manganese increases hardenability" but what does that really mean? The article gives you an idea at least.

Is manganese steel any good for a sword? From a reputable maker, I would interpret "manganese steel" as probably 65MN or similar. From some outfits, though, they advertise the steel as whatever the hell they want, and you're lucky if they give you 1045.

βαρβαρός! (engl: "Manganese") And besides being a barbarian, you faked that translation.

What is usually advertised as Manganese steel is usually a little more rust resistant than most carbon steel, and I would be totally fine going at a pool noodle with one. anything harder or dense, I dunno...
$229 for a Manganese steel Han Jian seems a little pricey to me, I bet you could find a 9260 in the 150 to 200 range.

I joked and said nothing but βαρβαρός in English does translate to barbarian. Manganese is Μαγγάνιο.

It might as well be. Like... If your local grocery store, out of their own goodness, decided to let you cash in large quantities of monopoly money in exchange for a small amount of goods as a promotion
