Just ordered a custom katana fro JW... prolly take about 6 weeks or so to get here. I always hate waits. No matter how long. I really feel for people that get insane custom jobs that take years.
I just try not to think about it until near the end (when it gets unbearable) and carry on with life.
Anyone have any stories about long waits in general or how they cope with it? lol
Just pretty much curious about anything and everything involving a wait time.

You'll be lucky to have it by Christmas, maybe New Year. JW is notorious for finding reasons to delay, mos of which legitimate, cracks et cetera. Good luck.

I predict a series of emailed excuses and extenstions and a delivery date more like 4-7 months in the future.
I hope I'm wrong... but I've dealt with far too many makers to believe differently... even took part in a couple of "waiting on a JW katana " threads on SFI... but it was paartist at that time.
Either way... doesn't matter good things come to those who wait...
I have been waiting on a migration era greatsword commission for 2.5 years now... looks like it will never come, the smith has broken off communication.
I have been waiting on an Angus Trim 1508 for about 1.25 years now... I believe the end is near now... and I got a 1315 about halfway through the wait that really helped.
Finally, I had a custom katana being mounted by Fred Lohman. I waited about 5-6 months and Fred contacted me to tell me it was ready... right at Christmas 2007.
Christmas is a bad time , and after the first of the year I had a commitment... well long story short, I turned the tables unintentionally, and Lohman had to wait 8 months for payment...
He was very patient...
Waiting is very much a sacred sword tradition .
If you have any free funds, pick up a cheap sword in the meantime to hold you over... you can always sell it later.

lol... I think this thread was a bad idea... it was intended to comfort me by hearing other long wait stories... not have everyone tell me in increasing increments how long my sword will take...
/sigh
What can one do I suppose.
No more discussion of JW or my sword's delivery time. Effective now....
lol >.<

With JW, it may depend on whether you asked them for any custom features. If you just bought the katana as it is listed, then it may not take as long.
Keep us posted!

You just have to look at the positive side man! Yeah its something you want NOW, and you will feel anxious about it, but it can also be sort of fun really. Just knowing that you have something coming is a great feeling and is probably an even longer lasting (no pun intended) feeling than the feeling you'll have on the day of its arrival. For example: I was waiting for my now infamous Kokoro Ichi to arrive. The anticipation was awesome! It gave my something to look forward to you know. And when i got the sword, i was sort of disappointed... Don't get me wrong, i was thrilled to have the sword in hand, and i loved everything about it. But i was also kinda sad because i no longer had anything to look forward to for awhile. That is until i found my next sword to anticipate! I have one now that i am not sure how long it is going to take, actually i have 2 of them coming at some point. And i am glad to wait, as i look forward to their arrival. Hope its not too soon! I guess i am what doctors would call a pleasure delayer... Oh well, i have never had any complaints Good things are worth the wait, it just makes their arrival that much sweeter.

They just confirmed in an email that it should be done in 5-6 weeks and arrive around a week after it's done.
No one is allowed to contradict this lol...
But I do agree. I love the wait even though it is torture sometimes.
It hurts so good..

Took 2 weeks for mine to come. Some friends of mine ordered blades and didn't receive 'em for 3 months. But I don't mind the wait too much, it means you have something to look forward to.
