RVA Katana (US-based home to Cloudhammer) is less than 10 miles from me. I should swing by and check them out, since their gaining so much traction online, but I just haven't been greatly impressed by what I've seen on their website...

I've talked with John Kang, the owner of RVA Katana. From what I gather, it's his side side side job, and he mostly sells low-end mostly decorative katana because they sell well in his area. He reached out to Cloudhammer at the encouragement of a local iaido sensei, to put his Mandarin to use and ended up their official distributor in the US. From what I understand, the decorative stuff is still the primary income of the website, but he's working to expand the Cloudhammer footprint.

I've talked with John Kang, the owner of RVA Katana. From what I gather, it's his side side side job, ... A large part of the reason I haven't visited is the odd business hours. That part of town is kind of a hassle to navigate, too, which doesn't help. Still, anybody brining more swords to any market, anywhere, gets my respect. Even if the swords aren't my thing.

Yeah, selling swords is for fun, and so not giving up the lucrative day job.... which means odd business hours. Also means not a lot of time to photograph the inventory-- the website has about 1/3 of what's in store.
If you ever swing by, let me know who you are.
