You will need to supply better photos, but I suspect a gunto. Photo any markings. On Japanese swords much information is found on the tang. But I see no menuki and I wouldn’t disturb the ito finishing around for one, possibly two. Give the statistics, weight, dimensions, etc. How you came to have the sword could also be helpful.

Well, it's certainly interesting, but it's hard to give any information without photos of the blade. Ideally, photos of the tang, also.
It's handle wrapping style is not one I see, personally, very often, but it's a proper style and seems to have been executed well. Other than that, I've got nothing.
Edit: pgandy beat me to it

Looks like an off model type 3 sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/68095/kanemoto-stamped-gendai-katana-koshiraePlease post more photos at higher resolution since right now I can’t tell if the fittings on the tsuka are cast or not. Could be genuine, simpler wraps and higo style wraps are common with them since proper silk ito and wrapping like with type 98 was seen as a waste of time. Looks like rayskin. What I don’t like is the saya and ashi. They’re significantly off model but that doesn’t mean fake. Lots of civilian parts were used for gunto and even type 98s were made by different contractors so there is considerable variation. Still, something about them I don’t like. Please post a photo of the blade, nakago and hada/hamon. And an overhead too. Try to copy what I did with mine in that link.
