I have a french sword that I got from my grandfather, he got it while serving in WW2. My online research stumbled upon some pictures that share the same lilies and / or roses pattern on the handle. That same website described the similar sword as "The Officer's Saber", and referenced "The Duke of Bellune, Minister of war", and, "classical aspect after 1840". Based on that I believe this sword to be between 1840-1854. 1. Anyone have any other info? 2. Anyone know the sword maker? 3. Anyone help with the french inscription? It is tough to get good pics of that to post.

Hi This is a French officer saber, model 1822; probably produced after 1882 (one wheel). Most likely, because I can't see anything in these photos. It can also be artillery 22-99. Give me better photos. Puzon

One update, the inscription reads: « Félix Escoffier Entrepreneur de la manufacture d’armes de Saint Etienne » The first name « Felix » is not marked as such, only the first letter is indicated “F.”. The words “Entrepreneur” and “Manufacture” are both abbreviated on the sword.
It simply means “ Félix Escoffier Entrepreneur at the arms factory in Saint Etienne”
Per some Google searches, Félix Escoffier in St. Etienne made assorted arms for the civilian market.
