Mods, please feel free to move or remove if this is not appropriate.
If you receive a message from user "ther457," you should report, delete, and ignore.
They just tried to offer me a sword (not theirs) at a too-good-to-be-true price. Of course, requested F/F PayPal without any buyer protections.
How do I know they are a scammer/liar?
The idiot sent me pictures of said sword taken from one our own member collections threads on SBG.
Beware!

Lol, to me happened exactly the same.
Same user, same unrealistic price and stolen photos.
Don't fall for this guy, people!

Anyone who says they know someone who is selling and contact so and so, is a scammer lol. Especially when you see the account is brand new with no activity.

This guy showed me a image of a antique in its glass case and told me it was a image of the sword being made.

I received a message from them out of the blue about a Polish Sabre, referencing a user smith09 who does not exist, and listing a phony email to contact. When I asked a simple question about type and manufacturer, I got ghosted. Total scam

Yeah I posted a WTB of a Windlass Swedish Viking sword some time ago. Obscure sword that is not very expensive. They must just go down the list lol.

scammers love "WTB" threads
on one of the firearms forums I had posted a WTB on an uncommon, out of production model and had 3 of this type of scammer in the first week.

At least all the regulars here are educated and suspicious. I just hate when a newbie is scammed...

Yeah any time I post in the WTB I get one or two of these replies every time, it's almost quaint but as long as everyone is aware of it, the names always differ but the general message is always the same, "my friend XXX@y.com has this, totally email him."

Maybe the SBG-Forum should introduce a more complex registration process.
Nothing crazy ofc....just like asking 3-5 simple questions about swords that most scammers couldnt answer however even beginning collectors 100% could.
This way one would keep the large majority of those scammers off the Forum.

Great idea, but it may exclude raw newbies. That doesn't fit with the inclusiveness theme. Believe me, the mod team is discussing options.

These scammer goons are pretty ham fisted I think informing newer users they should always get a photo w identifying prof of ownership and to avoid any 3rd party transactions goes a long way.

Lmao, I'm interested in seeing just what photos he sent. Gotta love it when the scammers goof.

The scammers on here usually get their pictures of the swords and knives off of Worthpoint. When someone sends me a picture I can usually find it on there pretty quick.
