I purchased this Walloon from an online auction. I'm new to collecting but it looked right from the pictures. After I received it there is seems to be a few red flags. It is marked 1854 or 185 and some symbol. I can not read the letters over the numbers. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you

I’m only passingly familiar with the type, but this one raises a lot of red flags for me. The blade ricasso is just wrong for a 17th Century sword. The patina is off, the bars normally are attached with a screw, I would expect the grip wire to be twisted and the guard is the wrong shape….

This is outside my area of expertise, but it bears a passing resemblance to the Swedish M1685 pattern infantry sword. One extra bar for the handguard, and the blade profile is not precisely the same (the fuller is missing on the originals; however, I understand that there was some variation in blades so that may or may not be a factor). Again, this is outside my area of expertise, but many of the design elements of this sword seem consistent with at-least one period sword pattern. In addition, I cannot think of a reproduction or fake on the market today that looks quite like the one shown by the OP (there is a reproduction 1685 around, but the blade and handguard are different as highlighted above). www.hoeglund.org/Vapen/vaerjor/Komiss_M1685-1735.html
