I decided to make a few quick cuts on plastic bottles as lunch wasn’t ready and the rains hadn’t started, and I wanted to keep my hand in it. After entering the rear patio I checked my back trail and saw a cucaracha on the backside of the stoop. I don’t have any in the house but have issues with them constantly invading. They come from either garden as well up through the drains. It was really bad timing on his part with two of my favourite kukris in hand. I watched as he climbed down to my patio's tiles and then started to cross using a mat. I would not have attempted a cut with him on the tiles but a mat is different. I made one cut with my KHHI GI1 with the results below. I don’t rate the cut as highly as my bowie on the rat, nor my Bamboo Katana on one of these critters in my bedroom, but nevertheless it was very, very satisfying. FWIW each of the 2½ L bottles went the same way, with the upper half hitting the deck and the bottom remaining on the cutting stand. It was a good morning with the refresher cuts working perfectly. Afterwards and running a chakmak over the blades they were still shaving sharp.

I want to take this wonderful opportunity to congratulate you both on what a sterling example you're setting for the rest of us. It's deeply appreciated. Now we can fill a thread with cockroach-slicing pics and videos. I'll try to bisect one of the local "palmetto bugs" while it's flying.

I use to target them with my blowpipe, but those days are over. I love a blowpipe and could hit a fly on the wall. My largest target was a raiding ‘possum. The biggest sport was running down and giving a rat a whack with a machete. Now that was a thrill, especially indoors. They would try to take refuge under furniture or an appliance, but a squirt of Raid, they have since changed their formula, and the chase was on again. To save my edge and floors I used the spine which worked well, crushing the rib cage and or breaking the spine. None escaped me. Outdoors it was also thrilling but less so.

We could organize a vermin hunting competition using swords, with prizes, but one of the more enthusiastic while less expert participants would likely slice themselves, the family dog or other bystander, or some such thing. Then there'd be mischief............
Oh! Apropos of little, a guy at my church, quite innocent of swords, inherited a bringback gunto. While showing it off, he experienced a classic single mekugi failure, and the blade went helicoptering. Luckily, no one was hit, and it landed in the lawn. He knows better now, and I'm going to replace the mekugi for him this Sunday.
