I am interested in adding a Yanmaodao to my collection later this year. What is the best Yanmaodao available at the market at the moment?
I would be pleased hearing a few recommendations.
Thanks for the help in advance.

The LK Chen has great stats and good reviews, but I’ve never owned one.

I have a Hanwei Oxtail Dao that I find excellent and came ridiculously sharp. Just by doing drills I shredded the silk red flag before removing it, meaning that it was cutting silk in the air. However since then LK Chen has come on the scene. I have no experience with their swords but they carry a good reputation. www.kultofathena.com/product/hanwei-chinese-oxtail-dao-broadsword/

There are 8 reviews of the Oxtail listed by KoA. www.kultofathena.com/product/hanwei-chinese-oxtail-dao-broadsword/ Here’s a review by a fellow forum member, alientude. I thought I recognized his voice, before I saw him.

Yanmaodao are less common in the market. Dynasty Forge has one afaik. LKChen's Yan Ling Dao perhaps. I don't own one so no recommendations.

I can strongly recommend LK Chen's Yan Ling Dao. I think they kinda have the current Chinese sword market cornered right now, for good reason. I wish I could comment on Dynasty Forge but I think their Chinese swords have been out of stock for like 3 years or more, at least whenever I look. I love how their Liuyedao looks but I've given up on that.

Thanks for the info. AndiTheBarvarian Yeah I am painfully aware of the fact that the Yanmaodao are rather uncommon. Wanted one already a few years ago but could not find one. Went for the Hanwei Oxtail Dao for my first Dao instead. Not a bad purchase from a retro perspective I really like the Oxtail Dao a lot. I am sorry to hear the Yanmaodao situation has not changed for the better. The Yang Ling Dao from LK chen might be the best alternative though. I just have on LK chen sword the Magnificent Chu Jian and I like it as well.

Maybe The Art of Fire and Iron ? They recently finished a custom Yanlingdao. Pretty sure you can ask for a custom Yan Ming Dao (rounder tip ?). I cannot really say anything about this particular model though but I really like my two pieces from them. Waiting times are a bit spotty because my last order was during the Shanghai Lockdown but when it settled down, order took two months from making to shipping.

soulfromheart Sorry for the late reply. Yes the Art of Fire YanglingDao would be a good alternative to LK chen. Their swords looks really good. But the same can be said about the LK Chen one. At the moment I am more inclined towards the LK Chen though due to availability bias. I have seen swort shops within the EU that have LK Chen chen swords. Cannot say the same about The Art of Iron and Fire though. In general I am not against importing stuff from overseas if the quality is right. The extra cost is ok. But I have to research yet how much extra money the Austrian Custom guys want to have.

For shipping, I truly prefer UPS for getting my parcels intacts (and hate EMS with a passion for the inverse). I think the Art of Fire and Iron does limited production run "slots" (on sale) before integrating it in their "on-order" roster.

Sorry for reusing this old thread, but I think making a new one is unnecessary. I am saving up money to get the lk chen yang ling dao but while browsing around to look for some other swords I found out that the dynasty forge yanmandao that was out of stock for quite some time might come back next year www.swords-and-more.com/goosequill-sabel-yan-mao-dao.htmlI am not sure if this company knows stuff the general public does not know or if is just wishful thinking. Anyway now to my question. Does anybody here have experience with the dynasty forge dao and if so how do they fair quality wise compared to the lk Chen yang ling dao? The LK Chen yang ling dao is still my favorite because if seems to offer great quality and it is cheaper than the Dynasty forge one. But I am still curious about the Dynasty Forge yangmandao because I was wanted one for many years already. In fact, if had been available this Dao would have been for first Dao ever. Due to unavailability, I went for the Hanwei Oxtail Dao instead. Not a bad choice either I am very happy with my Oxtail Dao though.

it will be interesting to see if they actually do have inside information. I don't think the DF website has been updated (other than "out of stock" notes) in the last 5 years.

Yes this little details bugs me to. The chinese sword section on the Dynasty Forge HP has been abandomed for years and their is no evidence that these swords are coming back besides the cryptic delivery date on the swords and more hp.
Well the only way to find out is to wait and see. It will take until early january anyway to get the funds for the Dao so I can just wait and see if the Dynasty Forge Dao comes back or not. And if it really comes back I need to research how it is doing compared to the LK Chen Yang Ling Dao. So far the Yang Ling Dao is my fay favorite.
