I have a very sharp Kopis made for me Purna Darnal, but as I have been doing some reenactment combat lately I decided I needed a blunt version. So I started making one. I picked up some old, large sawmill blades and had the blades and hilt scales cut out on the water jet cutter at my work. Amazing what you can do with an angle grinder and flapper discs. The other blade and hilt scale blanks are pictured as well. It isn't finished, and the grip scales are just temporarily rivited on. I can take some more off the edge, and the hilt will get a bit more shaping. At the moment total weight is 1157g. But the hilt scales weigh 442g by themselves!!! The blade is only 715g now, down from 955g as a blank. I'll give the hooked pommel of the hilt scales a thin out so that it is more elegant. I will also hollow each scale out to reduce the weight of the hilt. I am well happy with my blade profile! It is hard to show in the photos, but there are twin fullers with a pronounced mid rib.

Looks really good, will you try to have it a similar weight to your real one?

Looks really good, will you try to have it a similar weight to your real one? I should be able to get it slightly lighter. I turned my cheap bench belt sander into a poor mans linisher, so I'll give it a better distal taper. I'll also hollow each hilt scale out and taper the pommel section.

Belt sanders are brilliant. Looking forward to seeing it finished. I'm going to make a copy of a knife i have because its too damn sharp to play and flip it around like i love to do. I'm hopeless in the kitchen, most mornings i always pressure flip the butter knife before using it.

That’s a splendid piece for your kit. I’m glad that you regained your memory and shared.

Looks great! The sheath almost looks 3d printed? If not I'd love some info on the material and finish Take care, Andrew and the team at Kailash
