These are tomahawks I've made. The one leaning against the bricks is one I gave my sister as B day present. The other is mine. I've made six (maybe 7) and I gave all but the small headed one with the old plumb bob butt a presents to family and friends. In hindsight I would have kept the one I gave my sister. It's the coolest head, and made another for her.
The head on that one used to be a roofing hatchet like all the others I've made but that one was beefy. Plenty of metal I could take off and reshape. It's got that classic hawk shape. Mine actually started like as a sheet rock ax. I find it a tad small so I'm probably going to swap it out. It works OK but I want a wider chopping section. Every one I've made has the hammer back. I take mine with if I'm going afield and there's camping involved. Comes in handy for driving tent stake and even though I plan on a wide front it still works great.
I've had a lot of queries as to the plumb bob butt. It's far more than a weapon(though its good for that too). II works great for digging for like a camp fire pit probing the dirt to maybe see if anyone's home in the badger hole I run across. No. I'm actually not that simple. LOL I really do like the one I gave away. But it's in good hands. Even though it's built to use (I've never made any sort of weapon or tool/weapon that that isn't)The Bowie Is another creation of mine I built to pair with a tomahawk. It's 14 inches stem to stern, straight bevel grind with the point of balance right at the blade edge bolster. The latter I made from a chunk of stainless. I'm going to make a new one out of brass. The handle is tiger teak. It was fun to work I'll tell ya. It's hard as glass. Well maybe not that hard but I think the jist is that it's tough stuff. It's right up there with mountain. mahogany
It came out nice though. And it teams great with my hawk. I practice with the pair and it's a blast. So there's a couple "other weapons'' I have scuttling about. All worked up by me. Oh and the Bowie blade is made from a leaf spring off an old Chevy Apache in a rancher friends bone yard. I don't know what type of steel is is exactly but I'm guessing 5160. Whatever it is it's real Pittsburg made in USA stuff. I thought it was cool use for a knife. The source is ...different.
So without further ado on to pics. (EDIT) this was supposed to have gone in the "other weapons board) I don't know how it ended up here. I'll see if the mods can move it for me.
