Hey everyone, had a sunday afternoon question I thought I'd pose here.
My wife and I are begin to think about having our first kid sometime soon. Were still a relatively young couple but as I am thinking about raising a kid a thought popped into my head. What, if any, swords do I wanna pass down as a heirloom sword to my sons? I love the idea of passing down a sword through generations and want to bring that tradition back. So my question for this community is what swords would you say are good heirloom quality? Maybe what swords do you have that you would pass down from generation to generation? How do you take care of a heirloom or future heirloom sword?
Feel free to take this wherever you'd like in the realm of heirlooms. I love swords and collecting them. As someone who budgets aggressively and rarely spends a penny where I shouldn't, swords and pipe smoking have become my favorite pass times and I would love to share them with a son or daughter one day. But who knows, they may think I'm an old nerd and want nothing to do with the hobby. Haha oh well, that's a risk I am worth taking.

I’ll be passing down my modest collection of antiques. None are particularly valuable, but they make a decent set that should age well. There are a few high performance Albions, ATrims, and L Driggers to round them out.

And don’t expect to buy from him. Pellius grabs everything he puts up. Plus he has a special bat line into him getting updates on new stuff. Seriously if you see something come up jump on it. For me I’m either asleep or poor. Haha. Pellius, im living vicariously through you.

Yes indeed. The messer on the red background came used from a fellow forumite. I’ve bought a few from other members. Even the ones that were used for heavy duty cutting have remained like new, needing only an occasional touch up of the cutting edge. High quality construction to close tolerances with high quality materials, super tough steel with expert heat treating, excellent blade geometry, and attractive ergonomic overall design all make for a sword that is a pleasure to use for years on end. On top of all that, each is a hand crafted one of a kind. It all makes for a nice heirloom indeed.

You find that one smith that just seems to make everything just the way you like it, I don’t blame him haha

Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

Collect what you like. Kids are unpredictable and will like what they like. My daughter is 32. We share a lot of interests and there's some overlap which is inevitable from being raised by you, listening to your music, reading your books, and your attempts to educate them, but at some point, they are their own person. My kid has no interest in swords and that's fine. Love what you love and you'll find it can be contagious, but it's the love and passion you pass on, not the specific interest.

Sometimes I find it hard to use stuff that I’ve gotten from custom smiths that are super high quality. I’m always worried about damaging it irreparably.

Hah, I had this idea already, at least for the better ones, but I'm still too lazy.

Since I'm an organ donor I perhaps could devise my swords to the several recipients. Ugly swords to the eyes (hehe), the heavy Atlantean to the liver etc.
