I replaced the grip on a saber of unknown origin that I purchased. I used sheep skin and leather glue. I pushed the wet sheepskin under the back strap with dental tools. It feels very solid and tightened up nicely when it dried.
Questions: 1. Does this look right? 2. Does anyone know how to add twisted wire wrap?
I tried to approximate the look of a 19th Century Bavarian NCO saber which this most closely resembles.
I had to guess at the grip because the original was completely gone and replaced with string. I’ll attach some pics.
Thank you,
Peter

Thanks Pellius. I managed to add a pick of the grip. I’m not sure how to thread the wire under the back strap. I might just leave it plain because the ridges are too wide.

Dude, I’m not into Sabres but that looks great. Really good job.

Thanks paulmuaddib! It feels good in my hand. I used a light paint wash and polished it with some Kiwi. BTW: I’m a lover of Dune also. I read the first book 30 years ago. Frank Herbert threw down some serious wisdom: “The slow hand penetrates the shield” and “Fear is the mind killer” got me through some tight spots.
