Anybody put a clear coat on copper grip components to keep them from tarnishing all the time? If so, what do you use? I’m hoping for something durable that doesn’t look too cheap. I’m inclined to tape off the rest of it and hit the copper bits with some clear spray lacquer, but guidance is welcome.

WOW...it, depends.
I have an all COPPER helmet, here's what I tried.
Clear lacquer can yellow over time, and be a dog to remove. A scratch thru it, which then discolors is a pain to fix.
What I have had the best results with is wax. Just plain boring carnuba/ren wax, whatever.
If you're feeling adventurous, floor wax can work too.
Just thoughts.

Agreed, I've got an axe on the wall that I dust about every 6 months, and it's polished to mirror, and covered in ren wax. I have not needed to maintain it in over 5 years....and stuff rusts like crazy here.

I like the wax plan. That’s what I will go with. Thanks, guys.

FWIW we used a Blitz Clothe to shine our brass, which was done nightly. Some of the guys decided to save the chore and applied clear lacquer. Which had to be removed in short order as it did not hold up and that proved to be a greater chore. I think these guys soon abandoned the idea. I see Blitz Clothe is still around and available on Amazon, although they are not as I remember but a lot changes over 50+ years. I don’t see why applying wax after polishing should not work but if you handle the piece you probably won’t get the mileage that Sir Thorfinn gets. In short, lacquer may not give you the service you desire.

Well, gents, I’ve been doing this for about 25 years, and I had not tried the Ren Wax before. I guess I can be stuck in my ways. I’m a convert now. The wax coat is holding up nicely. Thanks for tipping me over the edge into trying something new.

I agree, there's something different about Ren Wax. It's not as expensive as it was, I know cost was my initial reason to not try it...
