Hi gents I after a bit of advice as to which Gladius I should buy if that's ok I've been reading all the reviews on SBG and other places and have come up with a few possible models. My choice is based on two things which swing in the balance authenticity vs. functionality! I would ideally like a Maintz pattern sword that looks 'relatively' historically accurate (I'm not a re-inactor) but also suitable for some back yard cutting if I fancy - I do want a real functioning sword. I'm in the UK and only want to buy in Europe to save on import taxes / shipping which restricts my models somewhat. The Albion swords seem the best but I cannot part with that much cash As a functional sword the Gen2 Maintz seems the ideal choice but the Windlass Maintz does look more authentic. I have seen a Windlass Pompeii review but not the Maintz, is it an ok sword and is it functional? I appreciate that I would have to get it sharpened or sharpen it. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards Matt

Hi, Matt, you seem to have the info down right. The Gen2 would probably be a better cutter, I have a pompeii model and ought to receive a Mainz on friday. I got a Windlass mainz just yesterday and it seem like it is a solid sword and ought to be a decent cutter if and when I sharpen it. Unfortunately the seems to be a shortage of good functional gladii. VA has one in the works that seems promising. www.christianfletcher.com/Christian_Fletcher/Valiant_Armoury_Swords/Pages/Actium.html

Thanks for the reply Ric
The VA looks very nice but I bet they aren't cheap to buy!
That interests me that you got your Windlass Maintz yesterday and it appears good. I've read one of your other reviews so I respect your opinion.
Many thanks.
Matt
