Some extensive cutting on pork shoulder and bottles and a more casual review of two knives designed by Brother Nathaniel (The Levin Lance ) and forged by Gulzar Ahmed. One is a bowie knife/bauernwehr hybrid featuring a 13.125" flat ground blade made of 5160 spring steel with brass quillons and dual-nagel for excellent hand protection. The grip is made of black micarta secured by a mosaic pin, and features a contour for ergonomics and retention. Very lightweight and nimble. Extremely balanced for both cut and thrust.
Midnight Dance Stats:
blade length: 13.125"
false edge length: 6"
overall length: 18"
weight: 537g (1 lb 2.9 oz)
point of balance: 3" from the guard
base width: 43.6mm above the ricasso
width at the clip point: 45.4mm
distal taper:
thickness at the base: 6mm
thickness at the clip point: 5.5mm
thickness at 2" from the tip: 3.5mm
thickness at 1" from the tip: 2.8mm
The other one is the Centipede Tanto Mk.II--a revised version of the tanto I reviewed previously. The second edition features a hidden tang instead of the full-width exposed tang (therefor having a slimmer grip profile), increased hollow ground edge bevel, increased distal taper, and a satin finish instead of the blued finish. It reduced the weight by more than 1/3 from the Mk.I of the knife. Also a slight drop point can be observed on the spine, so the point alignment is easier for thrust. A incredibly lightweight knife for its size. Together with its leather sheath instead of the wood-core scabbard seen on the first version, it's a good option as an EDC knife.
Centipede Tanto Mk.II stats
blade length: 8.8"
overall length: 14.5"
weight: 285g (10 oz)
point of balance: at the base of the blade
base width: 34.4mm above the ricasso
distal taper:
thickness at the base: 6.3mm
thickness at halfway: 4.6mm
thickness at 2" from the tip: 3.1mm
thickness at 1" from the tip: 2.2mm
